I've just read the last book in a series of 15. I'm still processing the ending of that journey and the future absence of the characters in my life.
Also as a poet I love the notion that a poem is never finished. There is always something to improve on.
Sorry about your friend. As I grow older more and more Facebook posts are about the passing of online contacts. It reminds me of my mother saying all she seemed to do was go to funerals in her later years.
Thanks for the comment Sharon. That’s been my experience too — it doesn’t seem that long ago that my parents were remarking on the friends they were losing. It’s crept up on me in recent years and I wasn’t emotionally ready for it. And yes, I feel the same way about characters too! I’ve never read a series with 15 books though — the closest I’ve come is Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon series. I felt some deep loss recently having finished watching the TV series The Fall. But that may have something to do with my decades-long love of Gillian Anderson.
